Bedroom Feature Wall

Here is my latest home project.  I was so inspired to create a feature wall after reading this post from Jenny over at Little Green Notebook.  I ordered 4 rolls of white Japanese masking tape for $17.00 total with shipping.  I ran just barely short, so some of the edges are not quite finished.  I wanted a wallpapered/patterned look without having to make the commitment and do the work.  I did the whole wall in 3 hours while my youngest son napped.

Here are the before, during, and after shots.  Because of the white tape and the light wall, it was really hard to get a shot that wasn’t washed out in the day time.  I took the after shots at night and those turned out a little more clear.

My diamonds are 10″ x 16″. I figured out the length of the wall it broke almost perfectly into 10″ increments. I used a pencil to make marks 10″ apart across the top and then 16″down the sides. I also made marks 16″ from the top directly below the 10″ marks to give me a guide and correct angle to apply each strip of tape. I originally planned on marking out every crossing on the wall, but that was way too much work. So I just made the marks along the first row down and then tried to keep the line straight as I applied the tape down the rest of the wall. I did a lot of taping, untaping, and retaping to get it straight. Finally, I used an exacto knife to trim the excess tape around the edges. It’s not perfect, but I think only I can see the imperfections. Yes, it was a lot of work, but marking the entire wall would have been worse and I am REALLY happy with the outcome. It was so plain and boring before.
The tape is kind of transparent, so it doesn’t really look like tape on the wall.
It’s really cool and comes in tons of colors and patterns.

I found my tape HERE. I couldn’t find plain white tape that was sold singly, so I just emailed them a request.
They split up some other sets and sent me just the white rolls I wanted.
Talk about great customer service!
Another great place is Happy Tape.

It makes me so happy to look at this wall every time I come in the room.
I think it looks very pretty–not bad for $17.00!
