Budget Tip of the Day: Branches and Lemons

It’s so easy and cheap to decorate your home with natural things around you.   You can place just about anything in a clear vase and it will look great.

I love this display and the contrast of the bright lemons with the dark rustic acorn branches.  It’s a perfect, beautiful combo.  You can do this with whatever you have lying around your house .  If you don’t have lemons, use apples, nuts, or dried beans.  You really can’t go wrong.

I hope you all have a great weekend and take some time to enjoy this beautiful season with those you love.  As always, thanks so much for stopping by.  It means the world to me!  See you back here on Monday.

Budget Tip of the Day: Bountiful Basket

One of the things I love most about fall is all the bounty of the season.  Nothing says fall like a basket full of squash, gourds, and pumpkins.  A trip to your grocery store or market is as far as you need to go to stock up on these beauties.  Fill a basket with an assortment of colors and varieties and display on an entry table, dining table, in the kitchen, anywhere.  Simple and perfect!

Budget Tip of the Day: Autumn Linens

A great way to bring some of the season into your home is with linens.  It’s easy to do and doesn’t require major changes to your existing decor.  I like things that are simple and understated.  I don’t necessarily want a towel with pumpkins and turkeys all over it, but some classy colors and images are my kind of thing.  Think tea towels, place mats, and napkins with just a touch of fall.  Here are a few great finds that caught my eye on etsy.

Fall Leaves

I hope you all had a very happy Halloween.  We had such a fun time taking the kids trick or treating and spending time with family.  The kids were in heaven and we all filled up on lots of candy.  As we were walking around the neighborhood, I noticed how beautiful the leaves are right now.  The colors are perfect!  Now is the time to grab few branches from your trees and bring them inside.  Put them in a tall vase and enjoy.  This is my favorite fall decoraing tip ever.  Best of all, it’s free!

Budget Tip of the Day: Preserved Leaves

Fall leaves are perfect for seasonal decorating but can dry up or get old pretty quick.  If you want your beautiful leaves to last a bit longer you can easily preserve them with some waxed paper and an iron.  This is a really fun fall decorating project to get the kids involved with as well.  Sandwich your leaves between to sheets of waxed paper.  Place an old cloth on the ironing board and put your sandwiched leaves on top.  Place another old cloth on top of the waxed paper and slowly iron until the waxed paper has melted and the leaves look clear.  Let the leaves cool and cut them out leaving a little space around the edges to keep the waxed paper sealed.

I hope you’ve all been inspired this week to bring the beauty of fall into your home.  I’ll see you back here on Monday for some more festive decorating tips.

Budget Tip of the Day: Fall Leaves Garland

Garlands are great for stringing across a mantel, door frame, staircase, or wall.  You can make this unconventional fall leaves garland with just a little felt and some twine.  Use a leaf or this template to trace the pattern onto your fabric and cut out the leaves.  Cut 2 slits in the top center of each one.  String your twine through and display wherever you like.  So simple, so festive, and super cheap!  You could have fun by playing around with different color palettes to create your own unique garland.  Thanks to Pink Trees and Vintage Chica for these awesome images.

Budget Tip of the Day: Fall Leaf Luminaries

Line your walkway with these festive fall leaf luminaries on Halloween night to greet your guests in style.  I found these on Martha Stewart, but I modified the instructions to make them cheaper and easier to make.  It’s so simple.  Here is what you’ll need:

Paper lunch bags (any color)

Spray paint (think red, orange, or yellow)

Leaves

A few rocks

Gather some leaves and arrange them on your bags.  Place a few small rocks on the leaves to weigh them down.  Spray a light coat of paint on each bag.  Let it dry completely and then repeat on the other side.  To light each bag, use a candle with a glass holder that is at least 3 times the candle height, or use a battery operated light for extra safety.  Easy peasy!

Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Budget Tip of the Day: Drilled Pumpkins

If you as challenged as I am when it comes to carving pumpkins, you will love this decorating idea.  Use a power drill instead of a knife to create the perfect design.  Just drill holes of any size into the pumpkin.  It’s that simple.  Now this is my kind of pumpkin carving!  Here are a few ideas to get you going.

Isn’t this a great looking topiary?

I found this one at The Crafty Nest.  She popped a water filled vase into the pumpkin with daisies and used glow sticks to light it up inside.  Pretty cool huh!
