diy headboard ideasBudget Tip of the Day: Curtain Headboard

Who says curtains are just for windows? Why not use them to bring this beautiful diy headboard idea to life. Attach the curtain rod to the top of the wall or on the ceiling. Hang the curtain panels and you’re done. This is a great way to add some color and pattern to your room and to create a beautiful focal point. It’s also the perfect fix if your bed is against a wall with a window. For a canopy effect, carry the panels around the sides of the bed as shown here.  This works great with a sheer panel and creates a soft, airy feel.  Try a faux silk drapery for a little luxury or try a linen panel for a more casual look.  Either way, a curtain headboard is the perfect answer for a beautiful and affordable headboard.

Budget Tip of the Day: Headboard Door

A great way to make a headboard really feel like a piece of furniture is to use a door. Find an old door at a flea market, thrift store, salvage yard, or anywhere else you can get one for cheap. Sand and paint the door, or keep in its original old style for extra charm and character. Make sure to remove the knob. When you’re ready to mount, just turn it on its side (knob side toward the bottom) and attach to the wall with D-ring picture hooks. You can find these at any hardware store.  That’s it!  Next time you come across an old door, snatch it up to create your own custom headboard.

DIY Headboard IdeasBudget Tip of the Day: Fabric Covered Headboard

There are lots of DIY headboard ideas and they are easier to pull off than you might think. For this fabric covered headboard all you need is plywood, foam, batting, fabric and a staple gun. You can find plywood at any home improvement store. Take your measurements before you go and then ask them to cut the piece to the right size for you. The next step is to attach your foam. You can use any size foam depending on how cushy you want the headboard to be. Either use a staple gun to attach or use spray adhesive if your foam is a little thicker. Next, lay the batting on top and secure to the back with a staple gun. Do the same thing with your fabric and then secure the entire headboard to the wall. It’s that simple.

A few tips on buying your materials:
When buying foam, wait for a half off sale or until you have a coupon.  It can be expensive if you need a large amount.  You don’t need a really thick foam, so buy something a little thinner or skip it all together to save some money.

When buying fabric, head straight to the clearance section and see if you can’t find something there first.  If you’ve found a pricey fabric, again the best option is to wait for a sale or use a coupon.  Fabric stores always have 50% off sales, so just ask when the next one is coming and sign up to receive the store coupons via mail.  This will save you tons of money on all those gorgeous fabrics.
