Budget Tip of the Day: Stainless Steel For Less

It’s no secret that stainless steel appliances are all the rage, but unfortunately, they are expensive. You can still get the same look for a fraction of the cost by using faux stainless steel adhesive film or contact paper on any appliance. Just peel and stick–no extra adhesive or tools required. You can order different sized sheets, and it’s fairly easy to cut to size yourself. Try giving your dishwasher or refrigerator a brand new look. The adhesive is heat resistant, scratch resistant, and is easy to wipe clean. You can find this product at most home improvement stores, and many other online retailers. It really is affordable and can make a dramatic difference to your kitchen.

Budget Tip of the Day: Budget Island

Budget decorating in the kitchen doesn’t mean you can’t have it all.  Have you always wanted a kitchen island, but can’t afford it or don’t have enough space? Try turning an old table or dresser into a handy workspace instead. Give it a fresh coat of paint and attach swivel casters to the bottom of each leg. Make sure the casters are able to lock in place for stability. Cover the top with tile or attach a piece of butcher block cut to size. Butcher block is an affordable counter top option that is functional and looks great. Because you only need a smaller piece, you’re not going to break the bank on this one. Customize your new island by adding hooks, towel bars, paper towel holders, accessories, and anything else to fit your individual needs.

Skip the window treatments when decorating in the kitchen and create a mini greenhouse instead. Install shelves in front of the window, using the side inset for brackets/support. Glass shelves will give you a nice and airy greenhouse feel. You can find glass shelving at any home improvement store or at stores such as Target and Wal Mart. Try creating an herb garden in a smaller window or display your favorite plants and vases. It’s a fun way to bring the beauty of spring and summer inside.

Budget Tip of the Day: Pots & Pans

There is a lot you can do with the stuff you already have when you’re decorating in the kitchen.  Instead of filling an empty wall with artwork, create a unique, eye-catching display of pots and pans. Head to the thrift store and pick up any old pots, pans, or tins you can find. Spray paint them to match your decor and hang on the wall. Or use the stuff you already have to give yourself a very functional storage display. You can use almost anything from cake pans and pots to muffin tins. A perfect art piece for any kitchen!
