Budget Tip of the Day: Colorful Containers

Try switching up the same old potted plants with an unconventional container.  These colorful watering cans add a whole new dimension to everyday plants.  You can turn anything into a planter.  Just drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage and you’re good to go.  Make sure you use the proper drill bit for the material you are drilling through.  If you’re not sure what you need, someone at the hardware store can point you in the right direction.  A colorful or unconventional container will give your space some added interest and is sure to wake up any ordinary house plant.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.  Thanks for stopping by!

Budget Tip of the Day: Hanging Terrariums

Create a stunning and whimsical window display using hanging bubble terrariums and tillandsia air plants.  Both come in a variety of shapes and sizes and look gorgeous.  The air plants are super low maintenance.  Just mist them daily and submerge in water weekly.  The plants and terrariums are surprisingly very affordable–between three and six dollars for each.  You can find the best price at Air Plants for U or ebay.  Hang them at varying heights in front of a window and enjoy your mini tropical garden.

Change of Plans

Due to the current weather here in Utah, my lofty gardening plans have come to a screeching halt.  It’s so cold and windy here.  We’ve had so many glimpses of beautiful, sunny days, but the rain and snow are not quite ready to leave.  So I’m postponing the rest of my gardening and instead will finish the week with some easy indoor garden tips that anyone can do.

Budget Tip of the Day: Indoor Garden Corner

If you’ve got a corner in your home that gets a lot of sunlight, try turning it into a mini garden.  Use a skinny desk or console table to display a mix of potted plants with varying heights, shades, and textures.  Use an additional side table and the floor to create more height variation.  Hang a mirror on the wall above your display for some added light and sparkle.  Anyone can have their own garden, even if they don’t have a yard.

Do any of you have a mini indoor garden?

Time for Herbs

To kick start my gardening week, I thought I would stick to something I’m familiar with: my mini herb garden.  This is my third year of doing this project, and I love it every time.  I already had the vases, potting soil, and rocks, so it was very cheap this year.  I paid only $3.50 for each herb bringing my grand total to $10.50.

This year I bought rosemary, thyme, and Italian parsley.  My house smells amazing right now!

You can check out the full tutorial for my mini herb garden in this post.

This is my favorite spring/summer decor.  Hmmm, what shall I cook for dinner tonight?

Come back tomorrow to see what else I’m planting.
