5 Things I’m Loving Today

This weekend was super busy for us, so I didn’t have time to do a video.  But I will have one for you on Wednesday instead.  Today I thought I’d share 5 things that I’m loving right now.

1.  My Family!

My family is simply the best and I love them to pieces.  They gave me such a great Mother’s Day–complete with sleeping in, a new CD, and handmade craft flowers and cards.  What more could I ask for?!

2.  Carrie Underwood Album

This CD was part of my Mother’s Day gift and it is just awesome.  I’m a HUGE country music fan and she is one of my fav’s for sure.

3.  Gray and White Duvet Cover

This stripe duvet set is from Target.  It’s my latest “look for less” find.  It looks just like this one from West Elm, but costs two thirds less.  My Target love just keeps growing.

4.  Ikea Dish Brush

Sometimes it’s the little things (like a dish brush) that just make life a little easier.  I have a stock of these under my sink and I love them.  The end has a little suction cup so you can stand it up on your sink.

5.  YOU!!

Yes, this may sound a bit cheesy, but I am so grateful and thankful for you readers!  I know you all have busy lives and are doing amazing things.  I know that your time is precious.  So thank you for coming back time and time again!  Thanks for coming on this journey with me as this little blog grows.  Without all of you, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love.

Remember to enter the art planter giveaway if you haven’t already done so.  You have until Thursday night.  Good luck!

Lucky Me!

Guess what I scored yesterday in my local classifieds?  Oh, just a beautiful tufted chesterfield loveseat!  I’ve been on the look out for one of these babies for a LONG time and I finally struck gold.

I know it looks a little rough and it definitely needs some TLC.  Some of the nail heads have fallen off and the cushions could use a bit more fluff.  But it’s nothing that a good re-upholstery job can’t fix.

I don’t have any room for this in my house right now, but I convinced my husband to let me store it in the garage until we move (this was a big sacrifice for him–he hates unused things taking up precious garage space).  But it was just too good to pass up.  And the best part was the price—just $25.00!!!!  Yes, way too good to pass up!  I’m one happy woman today.

More Fun Pillows

I’ve been sewing like crazy the past few days trying to get caught up on orders and adding more pillows to my shop.  I have a lot of new colorful patterns that I just added.  Here are a few of my fav’s.

Yellow and White Moroccan Tile

Coral Pink Cats Cradle

Blue and White Damask

Red Floral

Yellow and White Trellis

Navy Blue Trellis

Coral and Orange Trellis

I’ve got a lot more fun new patterns so hop on over and check them out.  A bunch of these are indoor/outdoor fabrics which hold up beautifully outdoors for the summertime.

Tray Chic!

Today I’ve got a little tray makeover for you.  I got this tray as a wedding gift and have always loved it.  But for some reason, I just never used it.  I’ve been wanting a tray to use on our ottoman/coffee table in the living room, so I decided to give this one a facelift with some paint and fabric.  (Sorry in advance about the picture quality.  I took all these late at night, so they’re a little on the dark side.)

I gave it a couple coats of white spray paint and a couple coats of clear gloss enamel.

I traced the bottom of the tray onto my fabric. If you look closely you can see the line.

Before cutting, I brushed fabric Mod Podge around all the edges.  This prevents the fabric from fraying once it’s cut.  It goes on white, but dries clear.

The I used more Mod Podge to adhere the fabric to the tray.  I put a coat on the tray and a coat on the back of the fabric before adhering together.

I also put a little more around the edges to seal them shut.

I already had the supplies, so this was a quick and FREE project.

Not too shabby, eh?!  What do you think?  I have a feeling I’ll be using this tray a lot more than I used to.

Success!

We finally tackled the craft closet disaster and it was a huge success.

Lots of new drywall anchors and a separate heavy duty hanging bar, mounted directly to the wall.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  I am starting to feel organized again.  And yes, I did find the thing I was looking all over for.  I knew it was buried in the mess.  I’m crossing my fingers that everything holds!

A Bit of a Disaster

Today I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I need to get done.  And the current state of my craft closet is not helping.  My entire shelving system came crashing down about 3 weeks ago and I just haven’t had the energy to tackle this mess.

I had everything totally secure with lots of wall anchors, but all my fabric put it over the top.  I added a bar to the bottom of the unit to hang all my fabric, and for a while it worked beautifully.  But my fabric stock has gotten really big lately and it added A LOT more weight.  I should have known it wouldn’t hold.

Yesterday I was looking all over for something I think is buried in the mess and I can’t get to it.  So today, the madness must end.  I’m going to install a new hanging bar, separate from the shelving unit, and then reattach the shelves.  I wish I had a better picture and beautiful project to share with you, but I’m just keeping it real.  I’m in a state of chaos.  Wish me luck!

Special Delivery

Look what arrived on my doorstep yesterday…

…all the makings of a beautiful sun room!

The fabric looks even better in person and I can’t wait to get sewing.  I added a fun stripe to the mix to give some contrast to the busier patterns going on.  It might be showing up as a lumbar pillow on the yellow chair.  We’ll see.  I’m really loving how the fabric story is coming together.

The Search For Curtains

My sister just barely bought her first home and we both couldn’t be more excited.  I’ve been helping her with the design for the past month or so and it is coming along beautifully.  She has scoured thrift stores and online classifieds to furnish almost the entire house.  I’m so proud of her.  She found some amazing pieces that are getting a new lease on life with paint.

She has a fantastic living room space with a super high, pitched ceiling, and great natural light.  I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect drapery fabric for a few weeks, but with no luck.  I convinced her to go with a subtle linen horizontal stripe pattern, but it’s hard to find.  I found a couple options, but the fabric is too expensive for the amount that we need for her tall windows.  Then last night a light bulb went off!  I remembered seeing a bunch of fabulous painted stripe curtains around the blogosphere.  I’m going to pick up a few of these panels from Ikea and paint the stripes on myself.

This is the look I’m going for, but a little more subdued.  I don’t want it to be too bold because there are a lot of other patterns going on in the space.

I’ll keep you updated on the progress of her house in the coming weeks and months.  We’ve got some fabulous things planned and I can’t wait to show you.

Lampshade Trim

I found a great lamp at a thrift store a while back that, surprisingly, wasn’t in need of any spray paint.  Even the shade was in great shape.  But it was feeling a little plain to me, so I decided to give it new life with some trim.  I grabbed a few packs of double fold bias tape and some fabric glue.

About 10 minutes later I had this.

It found a perfect home in my boys room.
