Tying colors together can be a challenge. Even after carefully planning a color scheme, a room can feel disjointed. Something just seems to be missing. These tricks will help solve this problem.
Using your colors: 60-30-10
Hopefully by this point you’ve decided on your color scheme. Now how do you use these colors in your space? The best guideline to follow is the 60-30-10 rule. Here is an example:
- 60% of your space would be one color (maybe the walls)
- 30% will be another color (maybe the furnishings and window treatments)
- 10% will be the last color (used in accessories, accent pillows, throws, or flowers).
Tie all colors together in one item:
Use one item that contains all the colors in your scheme. For example, in this picture, the colors are violet/red, green, and orange. Both the bedding and the curtains tie all 3 colors into one item. Area rugs work well for this all well because they often have multiple colors in the pattern. Using one element to tie all the colors together really creates a unified and cohesive space where each color in the room makes sense. It does wonders in helping a space to look complete.
