Budget Tip of the Day: Make your own Mobile

Instead of buying a mobile, try making your own. This one is super simple and couldn’t be more affordable-such an easy budget nursery idea. You can actually buy these at Walmart (Martha Stewart tissue paper pom-poms kit–under $10.00), or you can make your own for about $3.00. All you need is tissue paper, floral wire, and some fishing line. Hang these at different heights and you’ve got an instant mobile that’s very sweet and very cheap. Budget Tip of the Day: Wall Decals

Wall decals are a fun and cost-effective budget nursery idea. There are so many options to choose from that will turn ordinary walls into something magical. You are not just limited to the walls either. Try using on a table, dresser, bookcase, or headboard. They are super easy to apply-just peel and stick. They are just as easy to remove so you can simply take them off whenever you’re ready for a change.

Budget Tip of the Day: Ribbon

Once again, ribbon is the go to accessory for this budget nursery idea. It is cheap, versatile and can be added to so many things. Grab some ribbon you’ve already got and glam up an otherwise plain dresser by tying around each knob. So cute, simple, and best of all, FREE!

Budget Tip of the Day: DIY Letters

It’s so fun to display your child’s name or favorite words in any nursery, but pre-made letters can be very pricey, costing up to $20 per letter. With this budget nursery idea, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. Simply buy unfinished wood letters at any craft or woodworking store and use decorative paper to decorate them. Just lay each letter on the paper, trace, cut, and paste. Using a craft glue such as Mod Podge will give you the best results. There are lots of options to personalize each letter. Try painting your own pattern or use a stencil to paint a fun design. Using ribbon to hang each letter is another inexpensive way to boost the “cute factor” in any room.

Budget Tip of the Day: Paint!

There’s really no limit to the fun you can have with a nursery and it’s easy to incorporate many budget nursery ideas into the mix. Throw all the rules out that you’ve got for the rest of your house and use paint to create a fun nursery that both you and baby will love. Paint is the most inexpensive way to make the biggest impact in any room. Stripes always work well for a nursery and give it a whimsical look. To paint stripes as shown in the picture, first paint the entire wall the lighter of the two colors. When the paint is completely dry, measure and tape off the stripes using a level to make sure they are straight. Paint the stripes with the darker color and peel off the tape before it is completely dry. If you’ve never painted stripes before, you will find that it can take quite a bit of time and work. But it really does make a big impact for not a lot of money. Enlist a friend to help you out and cut your time in half.
