Budget Tip of the Day: Gourd Vases

Instead of putting flowers in a traditional vase, create a fantastic seasonal centerpiece using butternut squash. Just cut off the top and scoop out the inside flesh. Add water and your favorite seasonal flowers and you’ve got a special centerpiece that your guests will love. Try lining up your vases down the center of the table as a runner or create a grouping in the center using footed plates to add height variation.

Budget Tip of the Day: Fresh Vegetables

A great way to dress up a Thanksgiving table is with fresh green veggies. I love using fresh seasonal food to decorate with. It adds a natural, earthy casualness to the scene that is warm and welcoming. Pick up a variety of green vegetables along with all your other Thanksgiving groceries. Green beans, asparagus, and artichokes are my favorites. Place a rubber band around a candle so it’s snug. Then stick your green beans or asparagus spears inside the rubber band. Finish by tying a ribbon around the candle to hide the rubber band. You can also pry open the top of an artichoke and place a candle inside.

These take just a couple minutes to make and look fabulous!! You and your guests are going to love them.

Make your Thanksgiving dinner a beautiful experience for your guests by adding a few simple and budget-friendly touches to your table. Yes–I said SIMPLE!! It’s hard enough just trying to get dinner on the table. Decorating the table should be fun, not stressful. Even if you are not hosting, why not help out your host by volunteering to set a lovely table.

Budget Tip of the Day: Chargers and Fruit

Chargers are the easiest way to instantly dress up a place setting without spending a lot of money. If you do nothing else than set a pretty colored charger underneath each plate, your table will look beautiful. Choose a color that contrasts with your dinnerware for the most impact. You can pick up chargers anywhere for just a couple dollars each. They are not meant to be used as plates, so don’t serve up your food on them. It’s the perfect way to turn your everyday table into something special. To add an extra touch, place each napkin on a plate and top with a piece of fruit. Wouldn’t you love to sit down to table with a place setting like this. So simple yet elegant–and it won’t take you a lot of time.
